This subject offers students the chance to undertake independent research in their respective disciplines in areas of interest to them, and present the findings in a scholarly manner. Topics might include aspects of regional history, ethnic groups, language, culture, polity, media, gender, class, religion, and literature. Students are expected to use target language sources, such as books, journals, internet access, satellite television and newspapers. Students may also make use of Western language materials to develop an understanding of the different approaches and methodologies in the study of their region of interest, through a comparison of Western and target language materials.
