Subject Overview: | The objectives of this subject are for students to appreciate the issues involved in engineering large-scale software systems; to understand the phases and activities involved in the conventional software life cycle models; to be aware of the potential benefits of good software project management; to be able to analyse requirements; to be able to select and apply appropriate design techniques; and to understand the importance of the software development process in achieving software quality and be aware of some relevant techniques and tools. The subject will deal with topics such as project management, the software development process, requirements analysis and specification, design techniques and human computer interaction. Topics such as testing, tools, measurement, standards and quality assurance will also be introduced. |

Assessment: | A multi-component team project involving both individual and group written reports (50%); individual project management reports (10%); and a 2-hour examination (40%). |
