Course Overview:

The Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Arts is intended to provide an opportunity for graduates from universities other than Melbourne who wish to undertake fourth year studies in creative arts, including supervised research, which may qualify high achieving students for entry to higher degree research programs. Postgraduate Diploma students will undertake their studies with Bachelor of Creative Arts fourth year honours with a research component students. The Research Project may include up to 50% creative arts practice and a minimum of 50% theoretical study. The program may be completed in one year of full-time study or two years part-time.

Objectives:

Students who complete the postgraduate diploma should:

  • demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of a selected field of study in the creative arts;
  • be able to access and appreciate national and international debates in their selected area of study;
  • understand the interface between theory and practice in their selected field of study;
  • demonstrate an independent approach to knowledge acquisition that employs differing methods of inquiry including a variety of theoretical models and practical application through studio/workshop research;
  • apply critical and analytical skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problems within the chosen area of study in the creative arts.

Elective subjects from other postgraduate courses in creative arts may also be available, subject to the approval of the course coordinator.
Entry Requirements:

The minimum entry requirement is:

  • an undergraduate degree with a major study in creative arts including theoretical studies, with a grade average of H2B (70%) or equivalent in the major.

Applicants must include a written proposal stating the project and the relationship between theory and practice in their research. Interviews may be conducted.
