Course Overview:

The graduate diploma is an introductory course of concentrated language study in Swedish. Students will acquire advanced level language skills and develop an understanding of Swedish culture. Graduates are provided with a pathway to higher degree study and may qualify for entry to a postgraduate diploma or professional masters by coursework.

Objectives:

Students who complete the graduate diploma should:

  • develop communication skills across a variety of registers of contemporary Swedish;
  • develop a level of proficiency in written structures of moderate complexity;
  • develop a conceptual understanding of language use through a linguistic study of language functions;
  • receive an introduction to the culture and society of Sweden since 1870.
Course Structure & Available Subjects:
  • Students complete subjects in either the beginners or intermediate streams.
Total 100 points - subjects are 12.5 points each, unless indicated otherwise.

Candidates with no knowledge of the language will commence at the beginners level. Those who have completed previous study of the language may commence at a higher level, subject to approval by the course coordinator.

All elective subjects must be approved by the subject coordinator prior to enrolment.

Another subject in a related area may be substituted for an elective with approval from the course coordinator and faculty.

Students intending to pursue their language studies at the postgraduate diploma level are advised to consult the course coordinator or a Faculty course adviser regarding an appropriate enrolment.

Entry Requirements:

The minimum entry requirement is:

  • an undergraduate degree in any discipline.
