Subject Overview:

Valuation for statutory purposes including rating. Examination of all taxes affecting property, including land tax. Compulsory acquisition and compensation.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the subject students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of taxation affecting property;
  • Prepare a compensation report; and
  • Be involved in a moot court.
  • Assignment 1 - Multiple Regression Analysis estimating the value of 6,000 properties. Excel worksheet & Word report required to be submitted, due week 6, 20%, 1000 words;
  • Assignment 2 - A full professional standard compensation valuation report, due week 11, 20% , 1000 words;
  • Mock Court Room Presentation, 10% - the student will be required to act as both an expert witness and also as a cross examiner based on the findings of Assignment 2 - compensation valuation, due week 10 equivalent to 500 words per student, hurdle (Hurdle: students must satisfactory complete the Mock Court Room Presentation)
  • One 3 hour final exam, due exam period, 50%.
