Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 1 fortnightly one-hour seminar plus regular consultation with the appointed supervisor, over 2 semesters.

Subject Overview:

Students will conceive, plan and execute a substantial research project, and present a paper at a conference organised by the School of Music mid-way through the 2 semesters of enrolment.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this subject students should:

  • demonstrate a command of both standard literature and writings at the current scholarly forefront of the chosen field
  • develop the capacity for independent and original research and the ability to, plan and execute a substantial research project.
Assessment:

Attendance at twelve seminars during the 2 semesters of enrolment (5%); a 12000 word dissertation due no later than 5.00 pm on the last day of the second semester of enrolment (95%); presentation of two work-in-progress reports.

A Dissertation Guidelines Handbook will be available prior to the commencement of semester.
