Subject Overview:

Students will carry out a supervised research project in a relevant area of speech pathology. A draft scientific paper will be written describing the outcomes of the project.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this subject students should:
• Have developed a deep understanding of a particular aspect of speech pathology and have added knowledge or confirmed existing knowledge in the field;
• Have developed skills in applying research techniques to their future practice;
• Have gained skills in constructing a balanced and succinct argument based on current available evidence and well-designed research questions;
• Have developed the capacity to critically examine research and literature in the communication and swallowing-related sciences;
• Understand basic research design and the generation of testable hypotheses;
• Understand basic statistical tests relevant to speech and hearing science and apply these accordingly;
• Undertake a scientific literature search.

  • Literature Review (manuscript introduction) & Project Summary (methods) Week 2, Semester 4 - 30%
  • A final draft scientific paper of no more than 10,000 words due in week 10 of Semester 4 - 70%
