Subject Overview: This subject is designed to broaden and deepen existing knowledge and skills in a specialised area of physiotherapy. It allows the theoretical concepts and practical skills gained in previous subjects to be applied via an advanced clinical practice placement. Placements will be at an approved institution where clinical supervisors have significant experience in the area of specialisation.
Objectives:

The subject objectives are to:

  • Advance understanding of the changing knowledge base within specific physiotherapy discipline streams (paediatric, women’s health, cardiorespiratory and neurology)
  • Provide a systematic approach to the interpretation integration and application of investigative procedures, physical assessment, basic science and evidence-based practice in patient assessment.
  • Extend and deepen clinical reasoning in the development and monitoring of management plans based on assessment findings, best available evidence responsive to the service delivery models and the culture of the patient and the organisation
  • Gain advanced therapeutic skills in the implementation of treatment plans.
  • Contribute, where appropriate, to a team approach to patient management, advocacy and education.
  • Contribute, where appropriate, clinical guidelines and program development in their clinical areahere appropriate, oftreatmentills in he best available evidence
Assessment:

Neurological (534 NP)

  • Reflective Journal (1500 words) due within 2 weeks following clinical placement (10%)
  • Continuous Clinical Assessment due at the end of the clinical placement (60%)
  • Case Presentation (20 minutes) due at the end of the semester (30%)

Paediatrics (534 PP)

  • Reflective Journal (1500 words) due within 2 weeks following clinical placement (10%)
  • Continuous Clinical Assessment due at the end of the clinical placement (60%)
  • Case Presentation (20 minutes) due at the end of the semester (30%)
Womens Health(534 WP)
  • Reflective Journal (1500 words) due within 2 weeks following clinical placement (10%)
  • Continuous Clinical Assessment due at the end of the clinical placement (60%)
