This subject builds on skills acquired in 126-070 (Swedish Language & Culture 3A) and comprises advanced language training, in-depth study of Swedish culture and society, through fiction as well as non-fiction. Students will also be introduced to Danish and Norwegian for reading comprehension purposes. Students will further improve and consolidate their ability to communicate in Swedish with fluency, accuracy and appropriateness in activities involving the integrated use of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

• have an increased understanding of the historical, social, stylistic and situational variation of Swedish.
• have been introduced to Danish and Norwegian for reading comprehension purposes.
• have gained an insight into Scandinavian culture, society and literature through the medium of the Swedish language.
• have studied literary works by influential Scandinavian authors.

Oral and written assessment totalling 2,000 words 50% (during semester) and a 2-hour written examination 50% (in the examination period).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

• Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
• All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked.
