The DL provides students with the opportunity to gain a Diploma in language study while completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne. German German has more than 100 million native speakers and is the third most popular foreign language world-wide. A knowledge of German opens up the rich culture of German-speaking Europe as well as its history, philosophy, literature, music and scientific traditions. The German Studies Program has a proud history of more than half a century at the University of Melbourne and provides students with the opportunity to complete part of their studies overseas through scholarships and exchange programs. |

The Diploma consists of a three-year sequence of first-, second- and third-year language study and may add up to one year to the duration of the student’s degree course. Subject Options: | GERMAN 1 ENTRY POINT:German 1 entry point - Level 1Students completing the diploma with a German 1 entry point are required to complete the following Level 1 subjects (25 points). *German 1 and German 2 were formerly called German Beginners Language & Culture A and B respectively. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: German 1 entry point - Level 2Students completing the diploma with a German 1 entry point are required to complete the following subjects (37.5 points). *German 3 and German 4 were formerly called German Intermediate Language & Culture A and B respectively. German Intermediate Cultural Studies will be replaced by German Cultural Studies A in 2013. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: German 1 entry point - Level 3Students completing the diploma with a German 1 entry point are required to complete the following Level 3 subjects (37.5 points). *German Post-Intermediate 3A and 3B will be replaced by German 5 and German 6 respectively in 2013. German Post-Inter Cultural Studies will be replaced by German Cultural Studies B in 2013. Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: GERMAN 3 ENTRY POINT:German 3 entry point - Level 1Students completing the diploma with a German 3 entry point are required to complete the following Level 1 subjects (25 points). *German 3 and German 4 were formerly called German Intermediate Language & Culture A and B respectively.
