Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Up to 60 hours in a clinical placement
Total Time Commitment: Students are expected to undertake approximately 60 hours of self-directed learning in this subject.

Recommended Background Knowledge: Students must have knowledge and skills in the area of Physiotherapy and Clinical Practice in which they choose to undertake this portfolio subject.

Subject Overview:

The ‘clinical development portfolio' is directed towards a clinical area of practice that will enhance and build on students' established clinical interests and expertise. It requires the student in conjunction with the portfolio subject coordinator, to organise a clinical placement that will meet the objectives and learning outcomes set out in the learning contract form.

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students will have

• demonstrated an advanced level of knowledge in a designated area of clinical practice

• an advanced knowledge of the literature and evidence underpinning the designated clinical practice area

• an ability to integrate both theory and practice in the designated clinical practice area

Assessment:

Attendance at a clinical placement to be organised in conjunction with subject supervisor within semester.

A piece of written work of 5,000 words that is informed by the clinical placement objectives and experience. This work may comprise a review of literature underpinning the area of clinical interest or a review of the empirical evidence supporting the clinical practice, due end of semester (80%)

One of the following, due end of semester (20%)

  • Class presentation (case study from clinical placement); or
  • Production of clinical guidelines or position statement about the specific area of clinical practice (1,000 words); or
  • Clinical practical examination
