|Subject Overview:||Students will attend and participate in the Continuing Education Program (approximately 12 hours) and attend the Departmental Research In Progress Seminars (45 minutes duration, held throughout the year on a weekly basis (approximately 20 hours)). The Continuing Education Program has been especially designed to assist the student in gaining the skills necessary to succeed in their BSc Hons/BBiomed Hons. The program consists of a lecture series and number of workshops covering all of the assessment tasks in the Honours year including information relating to oral presentations, critical review of the literature, data analysis, literature data base programs, poster presentations, preparations of literature reviews, assignments, abstracts, posters and the research thesis. The Departmental Research in Progress program includes presentations encompassing a wide range of topics of central interest to contemporary biomedical research presented by external invited speakers and PhD students within the department.|
|Objectives:||This subject aims to extend and enhance the student’s education and intellectual development in the broader field of biomedical science by exposing them to topics outside the subject of their research project. This subject will thus provide the student with the opportunity to further develop their skills with respect to written communication, reference searches and critical analysis of the literature. Overall, the aim of our course is to provide students with first-rate skills that will either qualify admission into a Research Higher Degree or provide the necessary skills to pursue a successful career in one of the many science and technology industries available.|
