Subject Overview:

This subject is only available by invitation from the Head of Department.

This subject explores the relationship between information systems and organisational change, focusing on managing the change process. Topics include the drivers of change, the roles of power and politics, planned and emergent change, and the roles of learning in organisational innovation and change. Models for analysing and managing change will be examined (such as organisational development and learning organisations).

Objectives:

At the completion of this subject, students should:

  • understand the relationship between information systems implementation and organisational change;

  • be familiar with case study techniques;

  • have explored the process of change in organisations, including resistance to change; and

  • understand the range of actions that can be taken to facilitate organisational change.

Assessment:

Three components of individual written work totalling up to 2000 words due during the semester (30%); a group project involving practical and written work during the semester (20%); a 2-hour written examination in the examination period (50%). Satisfactory completion of the examination, submission of all assessment tasks and attendance of at least 80% of tutorials is necessary to pass the subject.
