Course Overview: The Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research (Biomedical Research Management) is aimed at people from medical and allied health professions (such as nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists etc) and others with a science-based background and qualifications seeking the opportunity to complete specialist formal training in a specific Clinical Research discipline.

Graduates of the Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research (Biomedical Research Management) will:

  • Have a high level understanding of the major activities involved in planning clinical research projects from start to finish;
  • Have skills in how to develop strategies to manage clinical research projects;
  • Understand the nuances, rationales, policies, risks and benefits of dealing with a variety of project stakeholders;
  • Understand the need to comply with regulatory requirements, the processes to fulfil this and be able to identify potential regulatory and legal pitfalls;
  • Be able to prepare and operate a budget for clinical research projects and adapt the budget to changing circumstances;
  • Understand what is required to develop a business plan for the commercial development of outcomes of clinical research;
  • Have the knowledge and tools for clinical research project implementation, including ongoing review, adaptation and risk management;
  • Be aware of a variety of leading edge developments in the biomedical research field;
  • Have the ability to apply the knowledge acquired in the Biomedical Research Management course to their own practical work situations through applied project work;
  • Have the ability to articulate the knowledge acquired in Biomedical Research Management in an appropriate form including reports and presentations;
  • Have the ability to demonstrate independent critical thought and exhibit superior analytic and problem-solving skills in Biomedical Research Management.

Entry Requirements: An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in medicine, an allied health profession, science or social science which is recognised by the University as evidence of adequate preparation for the course plus documented evidence of at least two year's full-time relevant professional work experience or doctoral study in a medical, scientific or allied health environment.
