Time Commitment:

Contact Hours: A one-hour supervised class each week, plus a minimum of 3 one-hour tutorials
Total Time Commitment: 60 hours

Prerequisites:

A result of not less than 75% in 740-333 Chamber Music 3-1, or permission of the coordinator.

The minimum level of performance required for chamber music would be equivalent to AMEB A. Mus. A or a very high grade for VCE solo performance.

Subject Overview:	Students will develop their techniques as chamber players and study selected repertoire to performance standard. On completion of this subject students should be able to: show technical development as chamber music players perform selected repertoire to concert standard demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently in matters of corporate style, sonority, balance, ensemble, phrasing, blending and musical gesture identify the broad and diverse cultural references of the chamber music literature apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance planning utilize teamwork skills in rehearsal/performance groups numbering from two to ten persons.
Assessment:	Satisfactory attendance and participation (30%); concert standard presentation of two smaller works or one large-scale work at the end of semester (70%). Less than 80% attendance will result in a fail.

Breadth Options:	This subject is a level 2 or level 3 subject and is not available to new generation degree students as a breadth option in 2008. This subject or an equivalent will be available as breadth in the future. Breadth subjects are currently being developed and these existing subject details can be used as guide to the type of options that might be available. 2009 subjects to be offered as breadth will be finalised before re-enrolment for 2009 starts in early October.
