Subject Overview: Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:

Appreciate the difference between e-logistics and logistics supporting e-Business.
Define key evaluation factors for assessing the viability of an e-logistics service.
Prepare an expression of interest for supplying an ICT logistics related product.
Develop a tender evaluation procedure for an e-Logistics service.
Understand the application of barcode standards and Radio Frequency Identification.
Appreciate the current Australian Logistics Council's position on these areas of standardisation. Determine the best information technology from a range of existing products for a specific business logistics related service.
Understand what part the emerging internet has on e-business and the resultant flow on changes to e-logistics.
Appreciate how business models impact on e-logistic provision.

Assessment:

One assignment of 4,000 words (100%) - A case study analysis requiring critical analysis would be drawn from experience or the workplace or re-assessment of the literature. A case study may be assigned by the course co-ordinator if participants do not want to venture their own company details.

Generic Skills: This subject examines the new arena of e-logistics and its place in e-supply chain management. It explores the measurement of e-logistics performance and determination of e-logistic requirements. The subject explores the extension of the supply chain through use of the internet, geographic information systems, geographic positioning systems, and track and trace systems. Intelligent Transport Systems are also discussed.

The Systems and Analytical hierarchy process in internet fulfilled logistics
E-logistics and e-logistics measurement.
Internet market place business models and the requirement for e-logistics
Insourcing and outsourcing e-logistics.
Appropriate KPIs for an e-logistics environment.
Fourth and third party logistic providers and the problems with each.
Barcoding and Radio frequency ID.
Real time e-logistics: Geographic Positioning Systems and Track and Trace.
Intelligent transport system considerations for your corporation including the intelligent vehicle access program.
Role and contribution of logistics in an organisational strategy.
