Subject Overview:

This subject involves the study of modern Hebrew literary texts and modern conversational idiom and grammar. Students should gain an enriched knowledge of the language through the use of modern Hebrew literature, and of the modern idiom spoken in Israel today, including its vocabulary, grammar and syntax. The subject should prepare students for a broader ranger of expertise.

Assessment: Written essays totalling 2000 words throughout semester 40%, a ten-minute oral exam 10% and a 2 hour written examination 50% at the end of semester.

Notes:

This subject is only available at first year level for students commencing the post-intermediate language stream. Students enrolled in the beginners stream should enrol at second year leve, and those in the intermediate stream should enrol at third year level. Formerly available as 109-006 and 183-117 Hebrew 3A. Students who have completed 109-006 are not eligible to enrol in this subject. Students commencing a major in Hebrew studies with this subject must also complete at first year.
