Students interested in these discipline areas should consider undertaking a Bachelor of Arts followed by a two year Masters Program in Education. In 2008, students in year 3 of the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching course begin classes in the week beginning 25 February. Students in year 4 of the course begin a School Placement block in the week beginning 4 February.

Objectives: | The Bachelor of Arts has as its objectives that graduates: * can demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of selected fields of studies in the humanities, languages and social and behavioural sciences; |
Course Structure & Available Subjects: | The combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching is a four-year full-time (or approved equivalent) program. The combined course comprises a total of 400 points with 250 points undertaken in the Faculty of Arts and 150 points in the Faculty of Education. The first two years of the combined course are devoted to arts subjects, with Bachelor of Teaching subjects normally undertaken in third and fourth year. |
Subject Options: | 50 points are required to complete the Arts component of the combined degree. All arts subjects undertaken in this BA must be from the following arts-approved study areas (see the individual area of study entry for full details): * all language subjects See 105 AA for a detailed description of all the above areas of study including subjects which are available in each year. 100 points(at least 75 points level 1) from Bachelor of Arts Second year 100 points* from Bachelor of Arts *(75 points level 2, 25 points level 3) Third year 12.5 points (level 3) from Bachelor of Arts 87.5 points (all compulsory level-1 subjects) from Bachelor of Teaching Fourth year 37.5 points (level 3) from Bachelor of Arts 62.5 points (all compulsory level-2 subjects) from Bachelor of Teaching For details on the majors available in the BA, see http://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2008/105-AA First year of the Bachelor of Teaching componentStudents must have completed a minimum of 200 points of arts subjects before being able to proceed to the Bachelor of Teaching subjects In addition to the subjects listed below students must also undertake ONE 12.5 point arts subject.

Core Participation Requirements: | Bachelor of Teaching students complete a minimum of 45 days of satisfactory supervised practice teaching in schools plus an extended internship in final year. Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching students should note that they are expected to meet their practicum commitments where these may occur in semester breaks at the same time as some arts subjects are offered on an intensive basis. |
