Assoc Prof K A AdelaarSubject Overview: | This subject is an overview of trends in modern Indonesian literature in English translation from the Nationalist period to the present. A variety of literary works are read and discussed, placing them within their historical and cultural context. On completion of the subject, students should be familiar with the major schools of literature in modern Indonesia and their relationship to Indonesian historical trends; and have read and analysed a number of important modern Indonesian literary works of various genres. |

Assessment: | Two assignments of 1000 words 20% each (due mid-semester and end semester), an essay of 1500 words 30% (due late semester) and a 1.5-hour written examination 30% (due during the examination period). |

Breadth Options: | This subject is a level 2 or level 3 subject and is not available to new generation degree students as a breadth option in 2008. This subject or an equivalent will be available as breadth in the future. Breadth subjects are currently being developed and these existing subject details can be used as guide to the type of options that might be available. 2009 subjects to be offered as breadth will be finalised before re-enrolment for 2009 starts in early October. |
