Students who complete this subject should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Hispanic cultural studies, linguistics or literature, and demonstrate the ability to analyse and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted. Available topics will be posted during Semester 2 of the previous year.

On successful completion of this subject, students should:

• demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Hispanic cultural studies, linguistics or literature;
• demonstrate the ability to analyse, and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted.

An essay of 5000 words 100% (commencing at the beginning of semester and due at the end of semester).

Each topic will require its own reading list to be compiled in consultation between the supervisor and the student.

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

Students who successfully complete this subject should:

• be able to communicating knowledge, intelligibly and economically: through essay and assignment writing, tutorial discussion and class presentations;
• have acquired written communication skills: through essay and assignment preparation and writing;
• have acquired public speaking skills and confidence in self-expression: through tutorial participation and class presentations;
• be able to pay attention to detail: through close reading and textual analysis, essay preparation and writing, and examination revision;
• be able to time management and planning: through managing and organizing workloads for required and recommended reading, essay and assignment completion and revision for examinations.

Students cannot enrol without prior authorisation from the subject coordinator. Students should seek permission to enrol no later than two weeks before the beginning of semester.
