Subject Overview:

Students will receive tuition in their area of practical study. Vocal and instrumental students will develop their technique and awareness of the stylistic and interpretative characteristics of the repertory studied with an individually designed program of technically-based repertoire in preparation for end-of-semester examination.

In order to contextualise their education within the best practices of local, national and international standards, students are expected to work competently and productively as team members both alone and in groups, for example participation in individual lessons and Concert Class/Orchestral related ensembles. In order to ensure the highest level of performance preparation, 100% attendance is expected.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the subject, students should be able to:

  • perform technically based repertoire with increasing fluency
  • develop solutions for technical difficulties
  • evaluate technical demands in selected repertoire
  • respond musically to the aesthetic qualities of technical repertoire
  • develop best performance practice skills within individual and/or group settings
Assessment:

End of semester 15 minute examination on prescrbed content from the appropriate instrumental or vocal area syllabus (100%)

Hurdle requirements:

  • 100% participation in instrumental or vocal class, unless approved by head of area
  • 100% participation in concernt class, or orchestral related ensemble (for strings, woodwind, brass and percussion), unless approved by head of area
