Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Standard semester: One 3-hour seminar per week & one 2-hour debriefing session. Intensive semester: Four full day seminars from 9am to 5pm & one 2-hour group based role play activity. One 2-hour debriefing session.
Total Time Commitment:

Approximately 2.5 hours of personal study per hour of class time is required to achieve a satisfactory level of performance.

Subject Overview:

In this subject you will engage in an assessment of your management skills and develop your ethical, personal, interpersonal and team-based skills. By doing so, you will develop your knowledge of management as well as capacity for creative analysis, problem solving, ethical decision making and written and verbal communication

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to;

  • Engage in the critical skills and knowledge of managerial work;
  • Analyse and evaluate and develop the key competencies you need to become a successful manager including stress management, ethical decision-making, problem solving, innovation, coaching, motivating and leading.
  • Demonstrate your capability in several critical management competencies;
  • Critically analyse management problems and apply relevant model and theories to generate effective solutions; and
  • Use evidence based research techniques to support management decision making.

Assessment:

Standard Semester

  • 1000 word individual assignment. Due in week 4 (10%);
  • 3000 word team project Due in week 8 (30%); and
  • 2-hour final exam, due end of semester (60%).


Intensive Semester

  • 1000 word individual word assignment. Due 18 January 2015 (10%);
  • 3000 word team case report. Due 6 February 2015 (30%); and
  • 2-hour final exam, due one week following the end of the intensive teaching period (60%).
