This subject comprises the Capstone experience for this program. Drawing on theory, knowledge and skills developed during the program, participants design and complete an individually negotiated, supervised investigative project.

Projects tackle a real life policy or management issue; integrate student learning; and present an actionable proposal for policy makers or institutional managers.

Participants are introduced to research and project management methods; given guidance in the design of their project; and must submit an 8000 word report that may later form the basis of a workplace report or journal article.

A hurdle requirement for this subject is that students will also present their project design and findings to a panel and their peers. This should include a reflection on the key learnings they have gained from their studies in the Master of Tertiary Education Management.

On successful completion of this subject participants will be able to demonstrate their ability to tackle complex tertiary education management problems; present evidence and analysis; and manage the practical elements of an investigative project that may involve clients or research participants.

There is one assessment task:

• A written 10,000 word assignment (project report) due at the end of semester, 100%

There are two hurdle tasks:

• Two 15-minute presentations to academic and peer panel as scheduled during semester.

On completing this subject, participants should be able to:

• communicate and present to people who work in different cultures and contexts
• investigate policy and strategy problems, and generate options to resolve them
• assess the risks and benefits of different solutions to management problems
• apply accepted policies and principles to different kinds of cases
• make well-informed management decisions that consider specific contexts.
