Subject Overview:

This subject explores the role of managers in leading change processes in the transformation of universities. It critically explores contemporary issues affecting universities in Australia and worldwide and the strategies and stances that might be adopted by managers.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Describe and analyse contemporary issues and priorities in Australian higher education.
  • Develop strategies for responding to complex areas for change and transformation in universities.
  • Develop processes for quality assurance in the context of new norms and values.





Assessment:

There are two pieces of assessment

  • A 10 minute presentation (equivalent to 1000 words) due as scheduled throughout the semester 20%.

and

  • Either a report to senior management analysing the possibilities for change management in relation to a current or emerging issue in higher education (4000 words) 80%, due final week of semester.
  • Or the preparation of a research proposal on a current or emerging issue in higher education (4000 words) 80%, due final week of semester.

This subject has a minimum hurdle requirement of 80% attendance at all tutorials, seminars and workshops.
