Minor Thesis

It is University policy to take all reasonable steps to minimise the impact of disability upon academic study, and reasonable adjustments will be made to enhance a student's participation in the University's programs. This subject is undertaken across 3 semesters of candidature (full time) or 6 semesters of candidature (part time).

To undertake a research project and prepare a thesis of between 20,000 and 25,000 words. The thesis topic must be approved and any variation to the topic must be negotiated with your supervisor.

On completion of the subject students should have acquired a detailed knowledge of scholarship in the area of their research, the necessary skills to conduct a research project, and a capacity to evaluate, interpret and report in a manner that demonstrates a high level of independent thought.

100%: Candidates must submit within the period of candidature three copies of the thesis for examination pursuant to Statute 12.5.1.

This subject is not available as a breadth subject.

On completion of the subject students will have developed:

• Intellectual curiosity, including understanding of the philosophical and methodological bases of research activity;
• Ability and self-confidence to comprehend complex concepts, and to express them lucidly whether orally or in writing;
• Knowledge, skills and practices, which provide a basis for independent critical inquiry and research based writing;
• Capacity for self-directed learning and ability to plan work and use time effectively.
