Time Commitment: Contact Hours: One 2 hour rehearsal per week per semester and participation in performances as required.

170 hours including self preparation time.

An audition is required for some ensembles and chamber music.

Subject Overview:

Students will develop their skills as contributing members of a musical ensemble and apply their performance skills as ensemble players.

Instrumental and vocal students will participate in ensembles and performances as approved by the Faculty and designed in consultation with the subject co-ordinator.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • show technical development as ensemble musicians;
  • participate with ability and self-confidence as a team member of a performing group;
  • perform selected repertoire to concert standard;
  • identify and exhibit specific knowledge of a range of ensemble repertoire; and
  • exhibit an informed respect for the values and principles of ensemble performance.

Assessment:

Satisfactory attendance and participation at rehearsals, and performance of a program of major works as approved by the co-ordinator/s (100%).
At the beginning of the semester, students are required to submit a form to the subject Co-ordinator for approval, indicating their intended repertoire, personnel, and rehearsal and performance schedules.
At the end of semester, students are required to submit a form to the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music supplying details of repertoire, rehearsals and performances achieved during the semester. This form is available at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
Assessment is on a Pass-Fail basis. Failure to provide evidence of intended and achieved commitments will result in a Fail mark.

100% attendance is expected, less than 80% will result in a fail in the subject.
