Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research-Clinical Trials Coordination

This course will provide full credit into the Graduate Diploma and Masters courses in Clinical Research currently offered by MCCP with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

The objectives of the course are to:
• Integrate specific skills training with advanced training in the management of clinical research studies.
• Improve the ability of graduates to undertake site coordination roles in clinical research activities.
• Develop competence in setting up a clinical trial and coordinating clinical research activities
• To provide an integrated award course where classroom learning can be applied and assessed in a workplace context

To satisfy the requirements of the Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research (Clinical Trial Coordination), students must successfully complete the two compulsory subjects, including a work-based assessment (a total of 25 points) to be awarded the degree.

Core Subjects

1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:
• an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in medicine, nursing, an allied health profession, science or social science; and
• at least 6 months of documented relevant professional work experience; and
• current employment in a relevant field such as medicine, nursing or allied health; and
• current eligible full member of ARCS Australia Ltd.
Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.

2. In ranking and/or assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider:
• prior academic qualification and performance; and
• the professional experience.

3. The Selection Committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Student Application and Selection Procedure.

4. Applicants are required to satisfy the university’s English language requirements for postgraduate courses. For those applicants seeking to meet these requirements by one of the standard tests approved by the Academic Board, performance band 6.5 is required.

• Managing cultural diversity is a key attribute for clinical researchers who deal with research in advantaged and disadvantaged communities. This course will provide additional knowledge and skills for effectively understanding and managing cultural diversity.
• Clinical research is a global research endeavor and frequently, research studies cross national borders. This course will better prepare the graduates to be an important contributor to this global activity.
