|Time Commitment:||Contact Hours: This subject is taught intensively between 4 and 15 May 2015 This includes 2 lectures and 2 two hour seminars per day; pre-teaching preparation 13 April to 3 May 2015 During the pre-teaching period students familiarise with the course, undertake readings and any pre-teaching tasks. Subject information and reading materials is available via the Learning Management System (LMS) through the student portal. |

In this subject, students focus on a range of technical examination and documentation methods, including visual examination using normal and ultraviolet light, photography, infrared reflectography, stereomicroscopy, x-radiography and how to document observations using a 'Condition Report'. Sampling methods, spot tests and microscopic identification of materials are also studied.
During the pre-teaching period students are expected to complete the course readings, review the lectures and any other course preparation as outlined on the LMS. The LMS will become available at the commencement of the pre-teaching dates.
Upon completion of this subject students should:
Hurdle requirement: students must attend a minimum of 75% of workshops/tutorials in order to pass this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 2% per day; after five days, no late assessment will be accepted. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
