Subject Overview:

This subject will develop participants’ skills in using aggregate data within clinical practice. It will address the use of a wide range of data types and sources to evaluate learning, teaching and assessment and make recommendations for improving practice. Through case studies and practical activities, participants will be exposed to ideas, methods and techniques to support high quality, evidence-based decision making.

Learning Outcomes:

Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:

  • Examine aggregate data patterns within clinical practice to generate hypotheses
  • Use aggregate data within clinical practice to test hypotheses
  • Source suitable data for informing clinical practice decisions
  • Determine the suitability of data to inform clinical practice decisions
  • Synthesise multiple sources of data to improve the validity of inferences
  • Take actions to improve the quality of data available for use within clinical practice settings
Assessment:

Case study: Using assessment data in the classroom (2,500 words) 50%
Case study: Using data to test a clinical practice hypothesis (2,500 words) 50%
