Language Testing - 200 Point Program

The Language Testing specialisation is part of the Master of Applied Linguistics.

Student who complete the Master of Applied Linguistics should:

• acquire advanced understanding of concepts, current issues and research methods in core areas of applied linguistics;
• complete a focused piece of research if undertaking the Minor Thesis elective;
• gain specialist knowledge and research techniques in their chosen Specialisation.

200 point program

Duration: 2 years full-time / up to 4 years part-time

The Master of Applied Linguistics (Language Testing) 200 point program requires:

Coursework Only Option:

• three compulsory subjects (37.5 points)
• one core subject (12.5 points) (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
• twelve elective subjects (150 points) (up to three undergraduate elective subjects can be taken, in the first 100 points of the program)

or

Minor Thesis Option:

• three compulsory subjects (37.5 points)
• one core subject (12.5 points) (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
• nine elective subjects (112.5 points) (up to three undergraduate elective subjects can be taken, in the first 100 points of the program)
• LING90010 Minor Thesis (25 points)
• LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics (12.5 points)

Please note: students taking LING90010 Minor Thesis should do so in the final semester of their program and must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics.

Capstone Requirement:

All students are required to complete the Capstone Requirement for the program (25 points). Students must complete the relevant capstone option for their specialisation -

Capstone Stream 4: LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics (12.5 points) or LING90005 Quantitative Methods in Language Studies (12.5 points) and LING90009 Language Testing (12.5 points)

Purpose: An opportunity to integrate knowledge and research skills within the Language Testing specialisation
