Overview:

The specialisation in project management is conceived for students who have an interest in coordinating all aspects of the building procurement process on behalf of clients or within client organisations. Educational focus is placed on the integration of technical dimensions and the ability to understand, foresee, evaluate and control industry contributions to a project.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Develop professional and project management competencies and decision-making abilities in the area of expertise;
  • Develop skills in understanding, realising and visualising projects and programs from life-cycle project management perspectives;
  • Develop conceptual knowledge on broad project management issues and enhance the problem-solving skills required for effective delivery of projects;
  • Enhance entrepreneurial capabilities and business leadership for achieving success in projects.
Structure & Available Subjects:

All students must take:

  • 112.5 points of core specialisation subjects, including the following capstone subjects: ABPL90025 Project Management in Practice and ABPL90308 Experiences in Industry.
  • 50 points of specialisation electives
  • 37.5 points of multidisciplinary electives which may include any of the following:
  1. Additional specialisation electives.
  2. Any Melbourne School of Design subject(s) provided preprequisites are met.
  3. Any University of Melbourne graduate subject(s) provided prerequisites are met and written approval is obtained from both the faculty through which the subject is offered and the course coordinator. Such approval must be provided to the Environments and Design Student Centre before teaching commences.

Students should choose specialisation and multidisciplinary electives in consultation with the course coordinator.

Students are required to successfully complete all of the following subjects (112.5 points) in order to obtain the Project Management specialisation in the Master of Construction Management.

Multidisciplinary electives

Student complete 37.5 points of multidisciplinary electives which may include any of the following:

  • Additional specialisation electives.
  • Melbourne School of Design graduate subjects provided prerequisites are met.
  • Any University of Melbourne graduate subject provided prerequisites are met and written approval from the home faculty plus the Master of Construction Management course coordinator is submitted to the Environments and Design Student Centre.
