Overview:

The Arts Foundation subjects will introduce you to the study of Arts at first -year and beyond. Each subject explores different ways of understanding a complex issue of shared importance across the humanities, social science and language disciplines currently offered in the BA and will provide you with the essential skills for continued study in Arts. The subjects will be part of a common first-year learning community, and students will benefit from an interactive online learning environment, forums and discussion groups and skills workshops. Studying one of these subjects forms part of the first-year core program for Bachelor of Arts students.

Learning Outcomes:

These subjects are designed to:

  • Introduce students to core ideas across a wide range of study areas;
  • Assist students to make an informed decision about their specialisation or study major;
  • Provide students with the essential skills and resources for further study in Arts;
  • Help students develop vital skills in research, planning and communication, which are required for high achievement in a tertiary environment.
Structure & Available Subjects:

The course requirements for the Arts Foundation program are:

  • BA students must complete one Arts Foundation subject within the first 100 points of the course. Students must take a minimum of one (12.50 points) in their BA or can elect to take a maximum of two (25 points) Arts Foundation subjects;
  • Arts Foundation subjects will count towards individual non-language majors/minors at level 1. Students who elect to undertake two majors can choose an additional Arts Foundation subject, or a first year Arts subject from within the same discipline area;
  • Students are strongly encouraged to take an Arts Foundation subject within their first semester of study.

At first-year level, you will be required to select one Arts Foundation Subject from the list of six. Each subject is worth 12.5 credit points.
