Subject Overview:

This subject is designed to assist students in a fundamental understanding of a range of drawing conventions and processes, media and safety issues. Class work, monitored studio assignments and independent investigations form a foundation upon which the student can begin to develop an individual studio practice. Students are guided in an exploration of methods and materials via a number of structured exercises including perceptually based drawing using life models, objects, and environments as reference points. Additional ways of accessing a breadth of resources (technical, professional and theoretical) are introduced through occasional excursions in research skill sessions, participation in group discussions, slide talks and departmental exhibitions.

Learning Outcomes:

Assessment is based on a substantial folio of work including perceptually based drawings made in response to set assignments, life drawings, sketchbooks/journals and any other self initiated works the student chooses to submit (100%).
