The module explores global issues in education and the different contexts in which children and young people learn and educators teach – in formal, non-formal and informal settings. It begins by introducing key concepts used in international education policy and practice. It presents information and research around educational opportunities and inequalities worldwide and discusses their historical and sociological origins. As well as considering current concerns in education, the module identifies future trends and challenges. Finally, it explores the role of professional educators in international contexts and the skills and knowledge required to work in these contexts.
By the end of this module, students should be able to:
Annotated PowerPoint and bibliography on an aspect of education in global perspective (1000 words equivalent) 30%, 1 x 3000 word written analysis of an issue in global educational policy or practice with reference to illustrative national examples 70%

Transcripts are sent from the international partner university approximately six weeks after the completion date of the course, therefore students are advised not to take this subject in the final semester of their undergraduate program if they wish to graduate in the December ceremonies.
Due to the varied grading schemes used by partners teaching into the U21 Diploma in Global Issues grades will be scaled according to the University of Melbourne standards using the grading scale online at http://www.mobility.unimelb.edu.au/outbound/u21/gip
