Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Approximately 40 hours of individual supervision sessions, as negotiated with the appointed supervisor, over the duration of the minor thesis.
Total Time Commitment:

Students should expect to undertake a minimum of 180 hours research, reading, writing etc… to complete the minor research thesis successfully.

Prerequisites:

To enrol in this subject, you must be admitted in N01AA. This subject is not available for students admitted in any other courses.

Subject Overview:

Note - to enrol in this subeject you must be currently enrolled in the Master of Clinical Research (coursework).

Research areas relating to clinical research will be chosen after consultation between the student, the coordinator and their sponsoring organisation.

Independent research under academic and industrial supervision. Specific supervision will be arranged with an appropriate supervisor in the relevant clinical area, namely:

  • Nursing
  • Oncology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Neuroscience

or other relevant clinical area as required

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this subject, clinicians should be able to plan, design and undertake a clinical research project without supervision and be able to report their findings.

Assessment:

One presentation (20 per cent) and minor thesis totalling between 7,500 and 10,000 words (80 per cent). The examiner, external to the University of Melbourne, selected by the Course Coordinator will assess the minor thesis. The appointed supervisor will also provide a report. The Course Coordinator will use both these reports to determine a final mark for the student.
