Subject Overview:

This subject is phasing out and only available to Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning students who are enrolled in a course for which there is no longer an intake. Students who have enrolled in a graduate program within the Melbourne School of Design or the Bachelor of Environments post 2007 should refer to course handbook entries for details regarding subjects available within their courses.

Students will undertake a series of studio-based exercises directed to the schematic design, design development and partial documentation of a medium-scale commercial, institutional or industrial building that is responsive to its setting and the resolution of its programmatic, environmental and technical requirements.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the subject students should:

  • be able to develop a design program into a well-resolved design and construction proposal;
  • have a developed knowledge of design principles, construction techniques and regulations influencing the design of medium scale commercial, institutional or industrial buildings.

Assessment will be based on a major design project and a review of a portfolio of all assignments set during the semester. Project, studio tests, exercises, reports and tutorial presentations to the equivalent of 10,000 words.

Formerly available as 702-340 Design 3. Students who have completed 702-340 are not eligible to enrol in this subject. This subject may be substituted by a similar level design subject with the approval of the Faculty.
