Subject Overview:

The MCM Brass Ensemble offers students the opportunity to engage in brass ensemble activities at the highest possible level. The ensembles will study and perform a wide variety of repertoire and diverse musical styles including both transcriptions and original compositions for brass.
Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • Show technical and musical development as ensemble musicians
  • Participate with skill and confidence as a member of a performing group
  • Perform selected repertoire to high standard
  • Identify and exhibit knowledge of a range of ensemble repertoire and skills
  • Exhibit an informed respect for the values and principles of ensemble performance
  • Demonstrate enhanced preparation to become professional musicians
Assessment:
  • Weekly preparation of parts for individual presentation and/or sectionals with active participation in all rehearsals, classes and performances (Ongoing, 30%);
  • Present a 10-minute individual part test (Week 6-7, 30%);
  • Give a 10-minute ensemble performance (Week 11-12, 40%).

Hurdle requirement: 100% weekly punctual and full attendance at all rehearsals and performances as directed is expected. Less than 80% attendance will result in a fail.
