Time Commitment: | Contact Hours: 36 hours: attendance at a half-day research training skills workshop (week 1 of semester), approximately fortnightly supervisor meetings, attendance at 2 full-day sessions for student oral presentations (week 11: of each semester). Total Time Commitment: 240 hours |
Prerequisites: | Pre-requisite subjects for a Research Project in Sexual Health: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: AND one of the following subjects: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Pre-requisite subjects for a Social Health/Qualitative Research Project in Sexual Health: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: AND one of the following subjects: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Pre-requisite subjects for a Epidemiology/Quantitative Research Project in Sexual Health: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: AND one of the following subjects: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Students entering the MPH from 2011 must have a weighted average mark of at least 70% for all relevant subjects to be eligible to enrol in the research project. Successful research project applicants will be selected on the basis of academic merit. |

Students will develop a research question in the discipline of sexual health and attempt to answer the question either by a systematic review of the published and unpublished literature or by the analysis of an existing data set, or by the development of a research protocol. |

At the end of this subject, students are expected to be able to:

Assessment: |
An oral presentation of 15 minutes (10 minute presentation, 5 minutes questions), due during the eleventh week of the first semester of enrolment (15%); an oral presentation of 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation, 5 minutes questions), due during the eleventh week of the second semester of enrolment (20%); a written research report of 5000 to 8,000 words, due during the examination period of the second semester of enrolment (65%). Students must pass the written research report (hurdle). |
