Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Regular meetings with the supervisor over two consecutive semesters of enrolment. Usually 2 contact hours/week or as arranged with the supervisor
Total Time Commitment:

2 contact hours/week, 8 additional hours/week. Total of 10 hours per week.
Prerequisites:

Admission to the postgraduate diploma or fourth-year honors in French.

Please note this thesis subject is currently being phased out and is only available to students who commenced their Honours/PD-Arts program prior to 2013. Students wishing to enrol in Honours/PD-Arts from 2013 will need to enrol in a 50 point thesis subject as per the course requirements for BH-Arts & PD-Arts.

Subject Overview:

A thesis on a topic approved by the French program Honours coordinator.
Objectives:
  • Demonstrate mastery of research techniques and methodologies appropriate to a field of French studies
  • Demonstrate the ability to devise and structure an extended and coherently argued piece of written work in French
  • Contribute to the enrichment of the French studies discipline.
Assessment:

A 12 000 word thesis 100% (due at the end of the second semester of enrollment).

Generic Skills:
  • Research: through frequent and systematic use of the library and other information sources, the definition of areas of inquiry and familiarisation with research methods.
