Subject Overview:

Chamber Music involves the formation of instrumental/vocal groupings of 3 or more players, according to repertoire requirements.


Students will further develop sophisticated techniques as chamber players and study selected repertoire to performance standard.


The subject involves the study and preparation of diverse chamber repertoire requiring individual part-preparation and regular group rehearsals.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • show technical development as chamber music players
  • perform selected repertoire to concert standard
  • demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently in matters of corporate style, sonority, balance, ensemble, phrasing, blending and musical gesture
  • identify the broad and diverse cultural references of the chamber music literature
  • apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance planning
  • utilise teamwork skills in rehearsal/performance groups numbering from two to ten persons.
Assessment:

Concert presentation of two smaller works or one large-scale work during the examination period (80%); satisfactory attendance and participation (20%).


100% attendance is expected. Satisfactory is defined as not less than 80% attendance.


Both assessment components must be passed in order to pass the subject.
