Prerequisites:

Admission to the Master of Art Curatorship, Master of Arts & Cultural Management, Master of Cinema Management, Master of Arts & Cultural Management (Moving Image).

Non Allowed Subjects:

Students who have previously completed AMGT90008 Project Management in the Arts or 760-523 Financial Management are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Subject Overview:

This subject provides an opportunity for students to prepare a project management plan for an arts-based project (e.g. an exhibition, a festival, etc.) in order to develop their project management skills. Students will focus on the creative elements and programming of the project as well as budgeting, ticketing and funding options.

It is highly recommended that students undertake this subject after completing at least 50 points of their course.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion students will have:

  • developed project management skills;
  • extended their understanding of financial management issues as they relate to projects and arts organisations;
  • acquired a knowledge of key issues in ticket pricing and sourcing project funding; and
  • gained an understanding of the development and presentation of creative content.
Assessment:

Group-based project with corresponding individual assessment consisting of a 1000 word proposal 20% (due early in the semester), and a 4000 word major assignment 80% (due in the examination period). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% (or 10 out of 12) classes in order to qualify to have their written work assessed. Any student who fails to meet this hurdle without valid reason will not be eligible to pass the subject. All required written work must be submitted in order to pass the subject. Essays submitted after the due date without an extension will be penalised 2% per day. Essays submitted after two weeks of the assessment due date without a formally approved application for special consideration or an extension will only be marked on a pass/fail basis if accepted.
