Subject Overview:

This subject will introduce students to issues in undertaking clinical research within hospital, community and primary health care settings. Content includes: development of a research question, study design and methodology, and ethical issues in health care research. This subject will be conducted as a mix of weekly seminars and one intensive workshop.

Objectives:
  • Critically analyse literature
  • Critically analyse practice
  • Develop capacity to undertake independent research
  • Appreciate the ethical issues involved in undertaking research with human participants and be familiar with the formal process of ethical review of research
Assessment:
  • Research proposal which includes a 2000 word literature review for the project (maximum of 4000 words total), (50%), due end of semester
  • Completion of a Human Research Ethics application relating to the research thesis, 2500 words, (50%), due end of semester
