This internship normally runs from the first week in January till first week in March (inclusive) each year. Includes one week of training and seven weeks in a secondary school in Singapore. The subject is offered intensively off campus in Singapore.


Entry into this subject is by application and invitation only. Applicants are approved by the Faculty of Arts and the Ministry of Education (Singapore). Students need to be in their final year or final semester of study in the BA with an overall GPA of 65% across their studies.

Subject Overview:

This internship gives Arts students the opportunity to do work experience in one of 90 Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges across Singapore within a range of Humanities and Social Science disciplines. Applicants may specify five Schools they wish to do their internship in, in order of preference. They work closely with a teaching supervisor, Vice-Principal or Principal.

  • Develop knowledge and skills used by educators in a secondary school environment.
  • Review and reflect on the process and output of a work project/placement to articulate their academic and career development learning from the experience.

The assessment for this subject is equivalent to 4000 words due on the students return. A hurdle requirement is the online journal throughout the 7 weeks on the teaching process, which forms the basis for the essay. In addition, students would need to be graded as satisfactory in their internship by the Ministry of Education staff.
