Subject Overview: |
Building on skills acquired in Aural Studies 1, students will prepare singing and rhythm tasks of greater complexity, and work with transcription tasks from recordings involving professional-level works of moderate complexity including polyphony. Aural methods will be examined in greater detail, including implications in current research in relation to traditional methods such as Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze, Suzuki and Yamaha. |

Assessment: |
Viva voce tests—prepared and unprepared solfege and rhythm examples, tested throughout the year (30%); two 10-minute tutorial presentations of an aural element from a chosen method, one presentation during each semester of enrolment (30%); transcription tasks of melody, countermelody, rhythm, chord progression and bass lines, due throughout the year (30%); attendance and participation in lectures and tutorials (10%). |
