Subject Overview: |
This unit focuses on building student competencies in working with complex, multi-faceted clinical cases. The content will focus on a range of issues across the lifespan including progressive neurological diseases, diverse cultural backgrounds, mental health, behavioural difficulties, pre-intentional communication, diverse socio-economic backgrounds, adolescent development and health, aged care and hearing loss. Students will be required to integrate information from a variety of sources, apply knowledge acquired in previous units, address professional issues that arise during complex cases and communicate their ideas clearly and effectively in both written and oral format. |

Objectives: |
On completion of this subject students will:
apply evidence based methods for differentially diagnosing, planning and implementing intervention; Integrate knowledge acquired from a variety of sources; have an awareness of the many issues facing case management (e.g. cultural, financial, time, treatment resources, other health providers); demonstrate skills to communicate clearly in both written and oral forms. |

Completion of a written report (1000 words) for submission in Week 8, Semester 2 - 10% Completion of a 20-minute oral presentation (2000 words) to the group in Weeks 10 to 12, Semester 2 – 40% A two hour written examination at the end of Semester 2 – 40% |
