Subject Overview: | The aim of this subject is to prepare the student to understand the basis of diseases that are commonly found in the ear and in particular the reasons for a patient having a hearing and/or balance disorder. The knowledge the students have gained about the structure and function of the ear will be built on, and this will be integrated with the impact of the different types of pathology on the patient’s life. The teaching and learning will take place in three ways: 1. a series of lectures 2. additional information on the Learning Management System (LMS) 3. a group project on the diagnosis and management of a pathological condition.

Objectives: | On the completion of this subject the student should: Understand the effects of different ear pathologies on the structure and function of the ear. Understand the presentations and management of ear conditions. |
Assessment: | A group presentation and written report about the diagnosis and management of a particular pathological process, held during semester:
A one hour written examination at the end of the semester – 60% Hurdle Requirement: Students must pass the written examination in order to pass this subject.
