Overview:

A major in Anthropology & Social Theory with an average of at least H2A (75%) in second and third-year subjects within the major, or equivalent.

Objectives:

· Acquire a detailed understanding of current theoretical issues in anthropology and social theory;
· Acquire an understanding of the history and development of anthropology and social theory;
· Develop skills necessary for original research in anthropology and social theory;
· Acquire the formal qualifications necessary to proceed to higher degree research.

Structure & Available Subjects:

Students undertaking pure Honours in Anthropology & Social Theory must complete:

  • A Thesis of 15,000 words (50 points) and
  • One compulsory subject (12.5 points) and
  • Two core subjects (25 points) and
  • One elective subject (12.5 points)

Students undertaking combined Honours must complete one of the following options:

  • A 15,000 word anthropology thesis (50 points) and
  • Philosophy and Scope of Anthropology (12.5 points) and
  • Coursework from the combining discipline (equivalent to 37.5 points)

Or

  • Thesis in the combining discipline (37.5 points) and
  • Coursework from the combining discipline (25 points) and
  • Philosophy and Scope of Anthropology (12.5 points) and
  • Two anthropology electives from the elective list (equivalent to 25 points)
