Subject Overview: | Australian political and academic leaders have recommended closer links between Australia and other countries of the Asia Pacific region. In order for these links to be forged, Australians must attempt to understand some of the crucial issues facing the region. Poverty, gender discrimination and uneven development have contributed to inequities in women's health status in our region. This course will focus on women's health issues in the Asia Pacific region. Drawing on the fieldwork experience of lecturers in a number of countries, it will explore the interrelationship between women's health and social systems, culture, economic development and public policy. It will also look at migration and women's health among various populations, including some immigrant groups in Australia. |
