Subject Overview:	This subject examines some of the psychological aspects of illness and medical treatment. The research evidence concerning both the psychological precursors and psychological consequences of ill health are critically evaluated. The requirements for comprehensive assessment, treatment, counselling and referral of women with health problems are systematically described and critically evaluated.
Objectives:	Students who successfully complete this subject should: • Understand the importance of critical evaluation in interpreting research findings which have attributed women's ill health to psychological factors • Understand the psychological impact of ill health and medical treatment Be familiar with the various approaches to psychological treatment for women's health problems • Understand the requirements for comprehensive assessment, treatment, counselling and referral in relation to women's health problems
Assessment:	Class paper and written assignments totalling 8,000 words
