Dates & Locations: This is a time-based subject, taught on campus at Southbank.
Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 1 hour per week (Semester 1 full-time) , 1 hour per fortnight (Semester 1 and 2, part-time)
Total Time Commitment: It is estimated that 3,120 hours will need to be committed to the satisfactory completion of this degree, either full-time over eighteen months or part-time over part-time over 3 years

Subject Overview: In this subject the student will develop and outline a succinct and directed approach to the area(s) of study and exploration, discussing the major research objectives and projected outcomes of the study. The student will demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate research methodologies, and a critical understanding of the relevant literature.

The proposal may consist of a written exegesis, a sound design(s) with an accompanying exegesis, software and/or hardware, with an accompanying exegesis, or other work deemed appropriate to the student's research by the supervisor and equivalent in work commitment to an 8000 word essay. The student will present their research to peers and the School of Production research committee.
Objectives:
  • to develop and demonstrate a clear understanding of the resarch proposal discussing its relatioship to current practises and traditions and areas of innovation within current practises;
  • to develop a literature review;
  • to develop oran and written communication skills.

This subject is a hurdle requirement.
Assessment: Research proposal, including literature review, of 8,000 words, or equivalent (100%). A mark of 75% or higher must be achieved to continue to the next phase of study. This subject is a hurdle requirement.
